This is for true Weather fanatics that want access to good computer guidance. I rely on these and other models when it comes to developing a forecast or tracking a Nor'easter bombing out along the east coast. Jump to a model: NAM | NAM WINTER FCST | GFSx/MRF | RUC | ECMWF NAM/Wfr (North American Mesoscale Model) This is a set of contour plots using data from the NAM model. The output fields are consistent with other models so the models can be compared. This model gives forecast information out to 60 hours and individual forecast times from initialization to 60 hours in 6 hour increments. The NAM Winter Weather plot contains 4 panels. The upper left panel is the 2m AG Temperature (F). The upper right panel is the Wind Chill Temperature (F). The lower right panel is the winter precipitation panel. The gray shading represents percentage of cloud cover (dark gray=>40%, light gray=>80%). The color contours (magenta, blue, green, etc) represent liquid equivalent precipitation. The scale is at the bottom of the plot. The white hatched areas represent where the precipitation will be primarily frozen precipitation such as snow. The yellow cross hatched areas represent where the precipitation will be freezing precipitation such as sleet or freezing rain. The light red vertical hatched areas are where precipitation is associated with thunder. The line contours represent surface (2m AG) temperature. The light blue line is +20C. The light cyan line is 0C. The dark cyan line is -20C. The lower right plot is the 3 hour snowfall in inches. The color scale is 10 times the liquid precip scale (representing the 10-1 snow to rain ratio).
GFSx/MRF (Medium Range Forecast) This directory contains contour plots from the Medium Range Forecast (GFSx) model. The model output runs from observed data, every 12 hours to 10 days. This directory contains contour plots of data from the RUC (the Rapid Update Cycle) forecast model. The output fields are the same as the ETA so that results of the two models can be compared so you can make the best estimate of the true forecast. This model gives forecast information out to 12 hours and plots are sorted into 5 directories for the initial observed fields, 3, 6, 9, and 12 hour forecast fields. ECMWF (European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting) This directory contains contour plots from the European Center for Medium range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) forecast model. This model runs to 7 days and provides data at 24 hour intervals for sea level pressure, 850 mb winds and temperatures and 500 mb heights. These plots are generated once a day at 8:45 PM EST.
